The hydrostatics for EPIRBs are made of fiberglass reinforced with nylon and are activated by the increase of water pressure.
When the vessel begins to sink, the hydrostatic activates the EPIRB and begins to emit an emergency signal and position to the COSPAS-SARSAT satellites, thus allowing the vessels location and the rescue of its crew.
